Ypsicon revolutionises food and cosmetics sterilisation

17 March 2016 | Cosmetics, News

The technology company Ypsicon, and his work on the Specialised Research Centre for Food Technology (CERPTA) of the UAB, have been the subject of much discussion recently. On 8 March, *El Periódico de Catalunya* published the article “Ypsicon reinvents juice to taste as if it were freshly squeezed”, which has really caught our attention. And why are we so interested? His specialism is sterilisation, both of liquids and their containers, whilst ensuring that neither the flavour nor the nutritional value of the sterilised substance is altered. The fact is that this new technology which they have designed, may have a range of applications in both the cosmetics and food sectors.

For the time being, as reported on its website, have developed and patented three technologies relating to food and cosmetics: firstly, sterilisation by means of UHPH, which “enables the simultaneous sterilisation and homogenisation of drinks and other liquid products, without damaging their original properties”. On the other hand, the UV-Therm pasteurisation, which combines heat treatment at moderate temperatures with ultraviolet treatment, and enables “the pasteurisation and sterilisation of fluids”. And finally, the UV-C aseptic bottling, which, using ultraviolet light, makes it possible to “sterilise containers made from various materials without the use of chemicals”.

From the Gabinete Técnico Farmacéutico M. Camps, we greatly appreciate the fact that there are companies researching ways to improve the sterilisation of food and cosmetics, and we believe that Ypsicon is heading in the right direction. For this reason, we encourage this young company to continue its research, and we hope it has a bright future within these two sectors.
